York
York is a historic city (dating back to Roman times) in North Yorkshire, England in
the UK.
As of
2005,
York had an estimated population of 137,505.
York is perhaps most famous for being enclosed by medieval city walls (the most complete surviving fortifications of this type
in England), and for being home to York Minster, the largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe.

- York is a city in North Yorkshire, England.
- The city is located at the confluence of the River Ouse and the River Foss.
- York is enclosed by medieval city Walls, which are the most complete city defended of this type remaining in England. An entire circuit around the Walls is about 2.5 miles (4 kilometers). The walls enclose an area of about 263 acres (106 hectares).
- At the centre of is York Minster, which is the largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe.
- York is also famous for its Snickelways (sometimes misspeltm quot;Snickelways"),
narrow lanes, usually not wide enough for vehicles, and suitable only for
pedestrians, that lead through the city.
- Main roads connecting to York are the A19, A64, and the A1079. The A64 meets the A1(M) and the M1 about 10 miles from the city. Additionally, the M62 which provides a route to Liverpool and Manchester is just 20 miles (32 kilometers) away from York.
- York has extensive rail connections, and is on both the East Coast Main Line, TransPenine Express.
- An hourly direct train on the TransPenine Express provides easy access to Manchester Airport.
