Product Description:
This book is a brief, but comprehensive overview of Southampton and nearby region for cruise ship passengers and others. Southampton is a very busy cruise port with many thousands of cruise passengers passing through each year. Most simply pass through the city on their way to the cruise ships to begin a cruise, or at the end of a cruise without stopping. However, Southampton is well worth a visit and offers many attractions. This is especially the case for those cruise ship passengers who have come to the UK after a long transatlantic flight. It is well worth arriving a day or more before the cruise just to rest up and get some adjustment to the effects of jet lag.

Many who are indeed wise or fortunate enough to arrive a day or more early stay in London. As an alternative to the high cost and congestion of London, a more relaxing and much less expensive stay in Southampton should be considered. As this book shows, Southampton has many attractions both from a historical as well as a cultural standpoint.

A stay in Southampton of a day or more before, or even after a cruise is a possibility that should be considered. Also Southampton can serve as a base for day trips along the south coast of England and has good train, coach, a highway links to many nearby points of interest.

Tour the Cruise Ports: Southampton and other books in this series are based on the hundreds of destination lectures that I have presented on cruise ships to destinations all over the world. The purpose of these lectures is to add value to the experience of the passengers at the various ports. These lectures are comprehensive overviews of the geography, history, culture, points of interest, and general information about the ports, countries, and regions.

My philosophy is that learning, retention, and simple enjoyment is enhanced by the combination of reading, seeing, and hearing. In my lectures and in this book I include extensive visual content including pictures and maps in addition to the text. There is also the possibility of listening to the book. Many e-book readers, including the Kindle Fire series, have text-to-speech. By this means you can enjoy a "virtual lecture," much like the original given on a cruise ship.
