Cardiff Castle

Cardiff Castle is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city of Cardiff.

Building on the site dates back to at least Roman times, with evidence of at least two previous Roman forts (some parts of the current walls date back to the original Roman fort). Subsequently a Normal keep was built on the site, and in the 19th century, the castle was enlarged and expanded in the Gothic Revival style for John Crichton-Stuart, 2nd Marquess of Bute.

Today, the site (including both the castle and the surrounding grounds of Bute Park) is owned by the city of Cardiff. As well as the ruins of the old castle, and the Victorian reconstruction, there is also a regimental museum. Apart from being a tourist attraction in its own right, the castle has in recent years also hosted a number of rock and pop concerts as well as other events.
